The MXNA has led me off to a number of personal and professional blogs as well as some interesting websites, but I haven't yet expanded much beyond that in terms of regular monitoring. So I'm interested, how close to having it "all" covered does that leave me? I sense I've got the main areas reasonably well covered, at least as far as English speaking lists/forums/blogs I do. :) What am I missing? Where do you go? Posted by thiggins at February 16, 2006 02:21 PM Comments Used to check www.director-online.com often(linked to www.developerdispatch.com) but since discovering your blog I check here every day hoping for some insider news about the future of our beloved authoring tool Posted by: Rob Barrett at February 16, 2006 03:40 PM For mailing lists that pretty much covers what I know also, as well as the MM forums. The main websites I visit on a regular basis are: http://www.director-online.com http://www.lingoworkshop.com http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/director/ http://www.mediamacros.com/ http://directorgeek.blogspot.com/ I also keep an eye on the MXNA XML Director thread as you do. Speaking of that thread, I submitted my new site (http://www.DirectorAtNight.com) on there a few days ago and heard nothing back. With the merger, is that submission form still being monitored? (after all, isn't a few days enough :-) There are definitely several sites that should be included in the Director feed to make it look more active. Lingoworkshop has a rather up to date list at: http://www.lingoworkshop.com/links.php Posted by: Rp at February 16, 2006 05:11 PM http://www.blog.lessrain.com/?page_id=110 Posted by: pedro at February 17, 2006 12:11 AM I check in fairly regularly with UpdateStage and their invaluable Director Quirk List, as well as the Mile High Table of Products. http://www.updatestage.com Posted by: Frank Coleman at February 17, 2006 06:39 AM http://directorfreaks.homeip.net/ Posted by: Yochai at February 17, 2006 06:46 AM Director Support Forums! For bug lists, Updatestage Quirk list is the source! Some more regular posting to this blog wouldn't hurt, either. Certainly there must be some info you could share in regards to Macintel support or MX 2007? Adobe should at least inform Xtra developers so we don't have to wait forever for critical Xtras which provide basic functions like printing, email, and OS support. Posted by: Zac at February 17, 2006 04:12 PM Thanks for all the input folks, it seems I have a few new forums to consider. In reply to some specific comments above: Raman: if you don't hear back about your blog being included in MXNA soon then drop me a line direct and I'll see why the delay is occurring. As far as I'm aware of things our blogs and our aggregator are to continue with full pre-acquisition functionality. JP: I try to post here regularly but I hope it's clear that I'm spreading myself a bit thin. With so many forums and lists, on top of this blog, on top of staying up with the industry and what developers are doing, on top of blah blah blah. I hope my point is coming across in that I'm doing my best to provide good coverage, in that I really am trying to use this blog more and more so I can avoid reposting the same answer in 8 places. :P Thanks again y'all... GO DIRECTOR! Posted by: Tom Higgins at February 21, 2006 01:59 PM Hi Tom, Hope I am not too late to add my two cents! ;-) I did some similar reasearch not too long ago. I agree with the main lists you mentioned, but can add a few more from another angle... In the French community: Piste-L (http://www.director-fr.com/) is very popular, and so is Sebastien Portebois's MediaBox forum (http://director.media-box.net/) From our own web traffic (which is mainly director developers) from the referrer info, you can get an idea what the other popular Director sites are. - You guys (Macromedia) - MediaMacros - maricopa.edu - Director-Online - updatestage.com - media-box.net - Shocksites.com - Startmovie.net (German site) Our main referrer is Google, which is actually interesting. It might mean a lot of the occasional Director users do not know about the director sites/lists, and instead Google keywords like "Lingo, Director, Xtras etc." when they need info. Hope that helps! Kristen Posted by: Kristen Banham at February 22, 2006 09:37 AM Kristen: never too late, thanks for your thoughts. :) Posted by: Tom Higgins at February 22, 2006 12:49 PM One new resource that I have been using on a weekly basis is an online radio show about director. I think it is called the Director Podcast or something like that. I found it in Itunes and I have heard about it on some user groups as well. Of course I pretty much use all the lists that you previously mentioned. Thanks for a great blog! Posted by: Vincent House at February 24, 2006 02:27 PM Vincent: I've been talking with Skip at Magicgate Software (they put on the Director Podcast) and it looks like I'll be doing a podcast episode soon. :) I'm trying to be more active here on my blog, I'm a late comer for sure. I've always been active on mailing lists so it's taking time for me to retrain my brain to use this forum more so I can talk about things in one place and not on six different lists. :P Posted by: Tom Higgins at February 24, 2006 04:46 PM Kristen, I'm impressed that we @ startmovie.net are listed in the "popular Director sites" List! I think Martin Kloss and his http://www.lingopark.de should be mentioned, too. It's Germanys oldest Director Community. 1) Swiss love to go hiking. Approximately 50,000km of trails lead through all kinds of terrain in this spectacularly beautiful country. Hiking times are given on the signposts, and trails are graded according to degree of difficulty. The organisation responsible for maintaining the trails and for co-ordinating local hiking associations is the Swiss Hiking Federation, Im Hirshalm 49, 4125 Riehen (tel: (61) 606 9340; website: www.swisshiking.ch). Guided walks, weekend trips and holidays are regularly organised by the Federation and the local associations. 2)In addition to the above excursions, there are also 'Radio Walks', which are announced during the season every Sunday at 0655 on Swiss Radio DRS in the Guten Morgen programme. The meeting point, cost, timing and route can be found online (website: www.swisshiking.ch) and on the special telephone line of Swiss Hiking Trails (tel: (61) 606 9346). Participants need merely to turn up at the station or meeting point as announced. 3)Enjoy the mountain sports. like a blank slate upon which very little has been written.
