Parental Controls on his LAN. The software is accessed through the BT's dedicated Yahoo! browser application which requires users to log on; when we log on as "Dad" we are able to add accounts for other users and this affects all the PCs in the house. If I try to access the internet from the kids' laptop the new username I've just created (on the study PC) is shown in the users drop-down in the BT-Yahoo! Browser software (on the laptop) and Internet Explorer 404s unless I log on using that (or Dad's) username. Setting basic account restrictions is also effective - if I set the new account to the default "under 10s" settings then I am only able to read the Yahooligans! kids webpages. Again, an account created on the study PC affects all machines on the LAN in this way, and the under-10 user cannot access filth & pr0n on the laptop. When the son tries to send an email to his mate (using the BT Yahoo webmail, at least) it refuses to send until Dad has logged in and "approved" the destination email address. I have to say that after some tinkering I'm really quite impressed with this software. I expected it to be totally Mickey Mouse, but the way that users are locked out of ALL internet applications if they're not logged into the Y! Browser is really impressive. The software would appear to do everything the father requires - This last point is the problem. Whereas the other settings - once configured on the study PC - affect all users in the house, hourly usage restrictions do not. If Dad sets Jim's account so that only one hour of internet a day is permitted between 7am & 8am, then logging onto the Y! Browser on the study machine (at 9pm) tells Jim that his usage allowance has been exceeded. However Jim can log onto the Y! Browser software on the laptop and run MSN Messenger or surf away to his heart's content. The content restrictions will be enforced on the laptop, but not the hourly quotas. I assume that this then puts those individual messages onto my hard drive similar to individual downloaded email messages (realizing now this might be an incorrect assumption). I have noticed that old messages "roll off" the newsgroups and "disappear" from the newsgroup even though I have downloaded the message to my computer. The option in Tools/Options/Maintenance to delete messages xx days after downloading is not checked. Neither are the options to compact messages. I don't see any user-defined options to automatically delete these messages. So what I am wondering is (thinking a new thought here) if my listing of messages is not a reflection of what I have saved, but what is saved/available on my ISP's news server, so that regardless of whether or not I have downloaded a message body (including any attachments) once that message is no longer available on the news server it is no longer available on my computer? Is that what is happening? Is there any way to "save" these old messages I have downloaded other than manually saving the messages to a "local file" folder? I hope this makes sense and I hope someone is willing to give a try at educating me about how this usenet/newsgroup system works. Does anyone remember the lucky bounces B-more got against Miami??? (yes indeed there were a few) -a fumble that rolled forward and resulted in a Ravens first down instead of Mia getting GREAT field position. (this was when Miami was still "in it") -the Fiedler pass that went through McKnite's hands SOMEHOW and bounced up off his knees right to a Raven. (17-10 wouldn't have been unsurmountable) - the goof-up on 4th and 1 when the Miami Receiver stupidly took off early. probably woulda got that and made it a good game again.... Does anyone blame Miami at all for being very-POOR at tackling?? Terry Allen has not been a force to be reckoned with this year and all of a sudden he looks like Edgerrin James. I'm not saying he didn't do well, but why do we assume it was "all Ravens" and not M iami sucking quite a bit??? Does anyone think Miami could have tried the deep pass a lot more and a lot sooner and had more success??? I do. Does anyone realize the Ravens defense as a whole has been playing considerably worse this year than last year? Still good but not "amazing" anymore. Does anyone realize that Kordell Stewart is no longer a "bust"? Have we forgotten the good year he had in 2000 and then the Excellent year he's having in 2001 AS A PASSER AND A RUNNER???? Has everyone forgotten how bad Grbac can be when the running game isn't working??? I don't want to overemphasize Grbac's weaknesses but I would say the weak performances are the norm for this guy this year- he hasn't been challenged in the past 2 weeks. He will be this week. Do people realize that Amos Zeroue will be back? Along with Bettis who should be FINE- this layoff nonsense is ridiculous. The point is- the Steelers were the better team all year round - actually BY FAR. Toss Minny and Miami at ANY GOOD TEAM and they'll look great the next week. The "natural" line on this game via Point Differential was Pittsburgh -6. It opened at -5.5 because the Miami blowout had lowered the differential to PGH -5.5 But it's not going to be exactly 6 or exactly 5. I can see why someone would think Baltimore comes close but all I can think about is how Pittsburgh totally outplayed Baltimore in both games. Kris Brown has still struggled but that loss in Nov. was the worst of his troubles. He has slowly been getting slightly more consistent. I expect him to go 5 for 5 this time around. Steelers SHOULD cover this one GOING AWAY. I can see a fluke cover happening- that's all. And this isn't my "Steeler pride". I'm concerned as a fan about New England. THAT one should be interesting.
