    Jag har fått in rapporter från elkraftbolagen, som haft problem.

    De solfenomen, som ger upphov till norrsken bildas

    i solkoronan. Koronan är solens yttersta atmosfär. Solkoronan

    ser du vid solförmörkelser eller med instrument ombord

    rymdsonder (SOHO t.ex). Det är framför allt två koronafenomen som

    orsakar norrsken. Det ena solfenomenet

    är kolossala gasmoln (koronamassutkastningar), som kastas ut från koronan.

    Det andra är koronahål, som ger upphov till en snabb solvind.

    Just nu ligger Jorden i en snabb solvind, vilket givit jordmagnetiska stormar.

    Solfläckar är områden på solytan (fotosfären), som är mörka på grund

    av att temperaturen där är lägre. Den lägre temperaturen orsakas av det starka

    magnetfältet i solfläckarna. Solfläckar kan liknas vid

    stora virvlar och tromber. Gas strömmar ner i dem.

    Solfläckar, om de är mycket stora, kan ligga kvar flera solrotationer,

    dvs flera månader.

    Vart elfte år har vi som mest solfläckar.

    Vid de tillfällen ( maximum beräknas till våren 2000) har vi flest

    gasmoln, som kastas ut, och som är snabbast. Dessa gasmoln

    ger de starkaste jordmagnetiska stormarna och kraftigaste norrskenen.

    Det är alltså gasmolnen som orsakar

    de kraftigaste norrskenen inte solfläckarna.

    Gasmoln kan vi ha under hela elvaårscykeln, men de

    är som flest vid solfläcksmaximum.

    Vi kan alltså ha norrsken utan det finns en solfläck på solen

    för det är koronafenomen inte solfläckarna som orsakar norrskenen.

    När gasmolnen kastas ut kan också partiklar kastas ner mot solytan och

    hetta upp den. Vi får då sk solar flares eller soleruptioner. Dessa ger

    intensiv

    strålning, som kan påverka jordens jonosfär och radiokommunikations-

    förhållanden. Flares ger ej upphov till norrsken.
