This issues recipe comes from Ten Club's Kerensa Wight For the first edition of Deep, I thought I would throw in my favorite bananna bread rcipe from an antiquated cookbook that was handed down to me by my grandmother, Thelma. It's not rocket science, and I'm sure there are more complicated versions of this delicious treat ... but I like to keep it simple, and nobody seems to complain when I bring it into the office! There is never any left by the end of the day! Always use very ripe, almost brown, bananas. They will give you the most flavor. I do like to add walnuts to this recipe too. I have tried adding hazelnuts or pecans too ... but why mess with tradition? I think walnuts taste best! The trick is to not overbeat the batter ... if you mix it too much, the bread will become very dense. I also encourage you to bake it for one hour ... it never seems to be quite done if I only bake it for the 45-50 minutes like the recipe instructs. It could just be my oven, so make sure to test it with a toothpick or cake tester before removing it. If the bread is ondercooked, the middle will sink and be very gooey. That always bums me out. But a successful banana bread is moist and perfectly-shaped. And it makes your kitchen smell yummy!! Give it a whirl ... and let us know how you do! Happy Baking!! BANANA BREAD - from the Grange Cookbook recipe by: Mildred Lund of Pembroke ME 1 egg 3/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. butter or margarine 3 bananas, mashed fine 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt Beat egg in bowl; add sugar and butter. Cream mixture together; add mashed bananas and vanilla. Mix all together. Sift flour, soda and salt; add to banana mixture and stir until well blended. Turn into 6x10 in. loaf pan. Bake at 325 to 350 degrees from 40-50 minutes. This recipe never fails. groetjes, Mirella :) Fellow GMs, The following is what I have put together as my report for Historicon 02. If I left anyone off the list of Volunteers who helped out, I sincerely apologize, but please let me know. The only thing missing from my report, is the correct name of the Philippine game that was awarded a certificate (James Mattes, please provide the correct name if you can). Also, the Convention Game Awards (ribbons) for "Best" games are still to be determined. The reason is that the ribbons arrived late to the convention, after many GMs packed up their games, so will be sent out by HMGS East later (Bill Rutherford, please contact me off-list to let me know the number and types of awards that were purchased, since you were in charge of this; thanks). I'll report these winners at a later time. I would like to thank all those GMs that volunteered time either at the desk and/or judging the awards. While there were four official staff positions assigned to the GM Help Desk, the time put in by volunteering GMs was what made it a success, as they were needed to cover all the slots. While I think most GMs and attendees know that this Historicon had some major problems in organization, including a severe problem with game scheduling and tables, if it was not for the GM Help Desk answering the myraid of questions, arranging tables for conflicting games, etc., there might have been many more upset attendees and GMs than there were. As a side note, the convention registration desk reported to me that they had to fix about 50+ game scheduling problems, together with the 20+ I know that the GM Help Desk fixed alone. While I have not counted the final number of games at the convention, I estimate that this means about 20% of the games had problems at Historicon 02, whereas usually only about 2% do. From a GM's perspective, this is upsetting, and hope that it will be fixed. Either way, the games were fun, looked great, and while naval games seemed to be on the rise, terrain also seemed to be better made as well (IMHO). Again, I would like to thank all the GMs that volunteered to assist with some aspect of the GM Help Desk at Historicon 02. I enjoyed working with you, and look forwards to doing the same in the future. Sincerely, Bob Giglio, Coordinator GM Help Desk & Game Awards Judging - Historicon 02 ---------------------------------------------------------- Martin Baber Bob Bailey Mike Betz (Staff) Frank Ditizio Larry Frost Bob Giglio (Staff) Scott Hartman (Staff) Jim Hergenhahn (Staff) Mike HillsgroveA Saab repüléstechnikai gyökerei legalább 70 év távlatába nyúlnak vissza egészen 1937-ig, amikor "Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget" (Svéd légi járm? vállalat) néven, 70 km-re Göteborg-tól Trollhättan-ben, megalakult az a cég, amelynek eredeti területén mind a mai napig készülnek a Saab járm?vek. A cég a svéd légier? hadászati megrendeléseinek tett eleget, majd 1944-ben a polgári repülésben is szerepet vállalt, 1947-ben pedig a gépjárm?iparban jelent meg els? autójával a Saab 92-vel (a Saab 91egy könny? gyakorlógép volt). A 92-es modell áramvonalas csepp alakja, az akkori id?kben radikális újításként egyértelm?en repül?gép tervez?i munkára engedett következtetni, szélcsatornás kísérleteket is igénybe véve. During the 4th hole, the following conversation took place. First Guy: "You have no idea what I had to do to be able to come out golfing this weekend. I had to promise my wife that I will paint every room in the house next weekend." Second Guy: "That's nothing, I had to promise my wife that I will build her a new deck for the pool." Third Guy: "Man, you both have it easy! I had to promise my wife that I will remodel the kitchen for her." They continue to play the hole when they realized that the fourth guy has not said a word. So they asked him. "You haven't said anything about what you had to do to be able to come golfing this weekend. What's the deal?" Fourth Guy: "I just set my alarm for 5:30 am. When it went off, I shut off my alarm, gave the wife a nudge and said, 'Golf course or inter- course?' She said, 'Don't forget your sweater.'" >>> A precious little girl walks into a pet shop and asks, in the sweetest little lisp ... , between two missing teeth, "Excuthe me, mithter, do you keep widdle wabbits?" She in turn, blushes, rocks on her heels, puts her hands on her knees and says, in a tiny, quiet voice, "I don't think mt pet python weally gives a thit." >>A lady walks into a drug store and tells the pharmacist she needs some cyanide. The pharmacist said, "Why in the world do you need cyanide?" The lady then explained she needed it to poison her husband. The pharmacist's eyes got big and he said, "Lord, have mercy -- I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband! That's against the law! I'll lose my license, they'll throw both of us in jail and all kinds of bad things will happen! Absolutely not, you can NOT have any cyanide!" The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, "Well, now. You didn't tell me you had a prescription." Yo mama so bald even a wig wouldn't help! I made it through the first hour Sunday night, but had to call it quits to get to work early the next morning. We are currently performing about 67 hours worth of work in each 8 hour day, which explains my lack of posting in this, my dear NG. I should return in full force soon. Anyway, we attempted to watch the rest of Macbeth last night - had the tape loaded, were all settled in comfy on the couch, and BLAM WHAP ZZZZT POW-IE! A lightening storm plunged us into total darkness. By this time, my lungs were bursting for light. Devoid of any entertainment, since nearly everything we like to do involves electricity of some type (get yer mind outta the gutter!), we hopped into Gunther The Bugmobile and motored over to the nearest mega-conglomerate-hyper-mall, where they keep the theatres in this burg (this is where the movies live). We were just taking a chance that a decent flick might be starting at our time of arrival. Ta-Da, The Phantom Menace was just about to start, so finally, I've seen it. Pretty good. Fun effects, isn't the larval Darth Vader just adorable? Coulda done without Jar Jar, didn't understand half of his rants, anyway. So. Hopefully nature will allow us to get back into Hamlet tonight, we are suffering from a lack of our minimum daily requirement of cheese. I wanted to ask a few questions of people who have one or the other of these. (1) I know that with E-ZPass, if you set up your account through the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, they charge you a $3 annual fee. What are the fees charged by other E-ZPass agencies (NYSTA, NYSBA, NYC MTA, PANYNJ, NJTA, Masspike, WVPEDTA, etc.)? If you go through, say, the PTC, do other agencies also charge their fees to your account with PTC, or do you only pay fees to the agency with which you set up your account? (2) What is the story on interoperability among the various E-ZPass agencies and IPass? From what I've been able to gather so far, it seems that ISTHA tollways (and soon, the Chicago Skyway) fully accept E-ZPass, but E-ZPass agencies out east do not yet accept IPass -- am I correct? Do other agencies (other than the one with which you started your account) directly debit your E-ZPass account balance, or merely use your transponder to identify whom they have to mail a bill to later? Does anybody know how that will work regarding E-ZPass/IPass compatibility? (3) I'm not sure how much out-of-state (leaving Michigan) travel I'm going to be doing, at least in the immediate future; that said, does it make much sense for me to sign up for any ETC program? Given the choice between obtaining an IPass from ISTHA, or an E-ZPass from PTC/NYSTA/NYC MTA/NJTA/whoever, which one should the average Michigan resident choose? Thanks in advance.
